PRAYER: “Compete well for the faith.” !!! So writes St Paul to Timothy this weekend. We like to be competitive… we follow sports “religiously”. Well… we need to be competitive about our faith too!!... as Paul reminds Timothy, and us. We need to pursue “righteousness, devotion, faith, love, patience, and gentleness….. “ so we can “lay hold of eternal life”.
A key way we will “compete well for the faith” is by taking care of the less fortunate around us. We are called to “secure justice for the oppressed, give food to the hungry” in Psalm 146.
Jesus tells the disturbing parable of the rich man and the poor man Lazarus. It is disturbing because we see the result of not having compassion for the poor… and the difficulty to get people to pay attention to our faith.
PARISH MAINTENANCE : Ondrick says they are looking at the end of September/early October to do the paving of the entry to Calvary Cemetery.
We are looking to get the cement pavement repairs done this fall also.
ONGOING MISSION/EVANGELIZATION/GROWTH: I am leading a Catholic Men’s group called THAT MAN IS YOU on Saturdays from 7:00 – 8:30 am; starting on September 17, 2022 in the Parish Offices. Please join us!
We will get our faith formation (CCD) schedule done this week and out to our families and th parish.
Peace of Christ,
Deacon David Southworth, Parish Manager
