PRAYER: Isaiah in our first reading gives us a vision of all nations streaming toward the mountain of the Lord’s house… “that he may instruct us in his ways, and we may walk in his paths.” …. Do we keep our eyes on God…. Do we ask to be “instructed in God’s ways”?... and do we try to “walk in his paths”?
Jesus calls us to “stay awake”!!.... we “must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come.”
PARISH MAINTENANCE : We are purchasing a new mower to be used for both cemeteries for $17,000. These commercial, 60 inch wide cutting mowers are expensive, with leaf collecting equipment. But we are mowing 5 acres at St Patrick’s and 8 acres at Calvary!
Thanks for those who continue to donate to the parish including for Heat. Our last fill-up of the church with heating oil was $5.93 per gallon as those with oil heat know. Recent years saw prices in the $3.00 plus range.
ONGOING MISSION/EVANGELIZATION/GROWTH: I recently heard a powerful talk on the life of Fr Al Schwartz who was born in 1930 and died in 1992. He was declared Venerable by Pope Francis in 2015 for his life of heroic virtue. Fr Al was from Washington DC and did amazing things in Korea after the Korean War, founding and reforming orphanages, hospitals, hospices, clinics, schools and the Sisters of Mary, a Korean religious order dedicated to the sickest of the sick and the poorest of the poor. All the while, he himself – like the Sisters – lived the same hard poverty as the people he served and loved. Amazingly he went on to serve also in the Philippines and Mexico…. What an inspiring life dedicated to Christ and Mary!
Peace of Christ,
Deacon David Southworth, Parish Manager
