May 22, 2022 Give what you Have!

PRAYER:  We had an Easter Season Clergy Day for priests and deacons of the Diocese this week.  Our Dominican speaker from Providence College underscored the power of our turning to Jesus…. Turning to Jesus in the Eucharist.  Coming to mass for the Eucharist… and just sitting with Jesus in front of the tabernacle or at Eucharistic Adoration.  He reminded us clergy…. And all of us baptized… that “we can not give what we do not have”…. Are we connected to Jesus?

I also heard the head of CNEWA (Catholic Near East Welfare Assn) tell of his recent trip to Poland/Ukraine with Cardinal Dolan to see first hand the difficulties of the Ukrainian refugees.  He emphasized how CNEWA starts with prayer.  He pointed out how the millions of Ukrainian refugees are not in refugee camps but are housed in homes and parishes!  He reminded us that the Soviet Union did not fall with guns… but with prayer.

PARISH MAINTENANCE:   We got the green light to do the cement repairs and paving at Calvary Cemetery.  The Diocese has engaged a church salvation/reseller to take the remaining “patrimony” out of Holy Name of Jesus Church on South St.  He will take the stained glass windows from the church, the 2 side altars, the hanging lamps and maybe also the copper steeple as well as wood-work.

PARISH ONGOING MISSION/EVANGELIZATION/GROWTH:  We have to be bold and try some things to engage our current youth and families into the power and richness of our Catholic Faith.  Sunday, May 22 at 9:00 am will be our last Generations of Faith program where we invite parents to help us teach the Faith.  We are focusing on THE HOLY SPIRIT/PENTECOST.

Sunday, June 12 at 5:00 we will kick-off our new EDGE Middle-School Ministry!.... It will be in our downstairs hall and will feature food, games, socializing….. and faith lessons.

We have a Retreat Day coming on Sat, June 18, 2022 from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm in our downstairs Hall led by our Faith Formation leaders:  Donna Marotto and Michael Chirichella

Peace of Christ,

Deacon David Southworth, Parish Manager
