PRAYER: We welcome 3 first communion youth to the fullness of participation in our Catholic Faith this weekend at our 10:30 am mass. Let us all appreciate anew the power of the Eucharist, Jesus’ gift to us of his actual body and blood!
Our scripture readings this Sunday are powerful!.... We see Peter and the apostles telling the Sanhedrin: “We are witnesses of these things (Jesus’ death and resurrection), as is the Holy Spirit whom god has given to those who obey him.”…. John recounts his vision of heaven with the voices of many angels surrounding the throne and the living creatures and the elders crying out: “Worthy is the lamb that was slain to receive power and riches, wisdom and strength, honor and glory and blessing….” If they worship God like that in heaven… we should add more “honor and glory and blessing” to God in our daily lives!!
PARISH MAINTENANCE: Old buildings like our rectory and Assumption Church are beautiful and classic…. But there are always things to improve and restore. The 6 swinging doors entering into the church from the patio and vestibule are the original leather covered doors. But the metal push plates and kick plates are badly darkened with age. We did a test and refinished the push plates on the doors leading to the downstairs hall by the St Julie Billiart statue. See how shiny and bright they turned out!
PARISH ONGOING MISSION/EVANGELIZATION/GROWTH: We keep praying and thinking how we can reach out to people more and more. We have our parent involved Faith Formation program up and running and we have high hopes for our middle school ministry that will kick-off on Sunday, June 12 at 5:00 pm in our Hall.
We are brainstorming a monthly music praise night and maybe a neighborhood picnic to invite those living near us to join us.
Peace of Christ,
Deacon David Southworth, Parish Manager
