PRAYER: We “keep the word with a generous heart and yield a harvest through perseverance”… this is our Gospel Acclamation after the Alleluia verses this week. It is from Luke 8:15. All Catholics in New England…. and here at Holy Name of Jesus, need to keep praying with ‘a generous heart and perseverance’, given all the challenges we face!
Our readings this week continue the theme of the parable of the Good Samaritan from last week of service to our neighbors… Our First Reading from Genesis showing Abraham and Sarah’s quick hospitable response to the three men who visit them.
We see our Responsorial Psalm 15: “One who walks blamelessly and does justice….. shall never be disturbed.” More encouragement to be hospitable.
Then in our Gospel reading from Luke we have the visit of Jesus to the sisters Martha and Mary. Jesus seemingly criticizes Martha for her serving. Is this a contradiction to earlier encouragement to serve? No, it’s Martha’s being “anxious and worried about many things” that Jesus wants to gently correct… First, we must focus on Jesus… and keep that focus in our quiet times and our active times.
PARISH MAINTENANCE: The Parish Council is wrestling with the Parish’s past debt, status of Holy Name of Jesus Church on South St and how we can pay our bills to the Diocese going forward.
PARISH ONGOING MISSION/EVANGELIZATION/GROWTH: Let us continue to “keep the word with a generous heart”… so that we can “yield a harvest through perseverance”. Please keep praying for the Parish to grow into paying our diocesan bills and encouraging youth and families to join our Christian family!
Peace of Christ,
Deacon David Southworth, Parish Manager
