FROM THE DEACON’S HEART

Hello to Holy Name of Jesus Parish!

“When we adopt a pastoral goal and a missionary style which would actually reach everyone without exception or exclusion, the message has to concentrate on the essentials, on what is most beautiful, most grand, most appealing…. The message is simplified, while losing none of its depth and truth, and thus becomes all the more forceful and convincing...”  Pope Francis in The Joy of the Gospel, paragraph 35.

Let’s each of us draw close to Jesus anew!.... What do we find most beautiful, most appealing… truthful, … forceful about Jesus’ love for us?... If we focus on that we can’t help but let God appeal to those around us through us.   In this week’s Gospel from Mark Jesus says to Simon and his brother Andrew:  “Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.”  In last week’s Gospel from John Jesus asks:  “What are you looking for?”… What is Jesus saying to you…. Now?... What is He saying to me….?

Please think of someone you know who is shut-in… and may be lonely and who could benefit from a “Buddy” who sends a card or calls.  We will start a project to connect with more people who are lonely during this pandemic.

Peace be with you and your family!
