August 28, 2022 It pays to be Humble!

PRAYER:  Jesus this week teaches:  “… everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”…. Boy can I get tripped up by this one…. We want to receive our due and recognition, naturally.  But we do well to focus on the destructive parts of puffing our selves up… exalting ourselves.  We can have and should have a healthy ego… but we are really looking for approval from God… not from the world or people around us… If we humbly do what God wants… all will be well!

PARISH MAINTENANCE :  The Parish Council and I are digesting the Diocesan Architect’s report on the status of the Assumption Church and Rectory.  He lays out about $2.5 million that is needed to bring both buildings to modern standards and meet all current building codes (which we do not have to do right now).  But we figure we do need to do about $150 – 200 thousand of work on flat roofs, boiler repair and better gutters for the church.  Fortunately we have savings and cash from sale of items from Holy Name Church to cover that.  But we will need to ask parishioners who can, to increase their offertory giving so we can meet all our current bills, in gratitude for permission to continue as a Parish and fund our out-reach to Youth and Families.

ONGOING MISSION/EVANGELIZATION/GROWTH:  I will lead a Catholic Men’s group called THAT MAN IS YOU starting in September early in the morning… more details to follow.

We are looking for a person, or persons, to lead our Youth Faith Formation for about 20 hours per week to keep up our momentum with parent involved- youth faith formation and middle school ministry program.

Peace of Christ,

Deacon David Southworth, Parish Manager
