August 14, 2022 Eyes fixed on Jesus

PRAYER:  “Brothers and sisters:….. let us…. persevere in running the race that lies before us, while keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus…”  This from Paul’s Letter to the Hebrews, our 2nd reading this weekend.  Our readings all speak of the difficulties of life… the difficulties of loving Jesus and following His path in the world.

Jeremiah is almost put to death for speaking the things of God.  Psalm 40 says:  “Though I am afflicted and poor, yet the Lord thinks of me.  You are my help and my deliverer;”

Jesus in our Gospel from John says: “ I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing?”  There is great joy and consolation in His love… but there is division that will get in the way of His Peace.

Let us keep our eyes on Jesus here at Holy Name of Jesus Parish in Chicopee!!.... Let us keep trying to do what Jesus wants us to do…. Spreading the Good News of His Love for us in ways that will reach people around us!

PARISH MAINTENANCE :  We are working to take down 5 plaques from the walls of Holy Name of Jesus Church on South St that commemorate donors of the first set of stained glass that was replaced in 1909, those that served in WW One, and the campaign to fix the windows behind the altar recently.  We will install them in our downstairs Hall.

Workers were in last week preparing to deal with some asbestos on the Church boiler so it can be repaired.

ONGOING MISSION/EVANGELIZATION/GROWTH:  Now that we have word that we can go forward as a parish for the next few years as we work to get more healthy…. Let us continue to try new ways to reach out to youth and families!

We are looking for a person, or persons, to lead our Youth Faith Formation for about 20 hours per week to keep up our momentum with parent involved- youth faith formation and middle school ministry program.

Peace of Christ,

Deacon David Southworth, Parish Manager
